Berlin bans demonstrations for this weekend, citing epidemic

Authorities in the German capital of Berlin have banned demonstrations planned for this weekend, The Guardian reports, citing the necessity to strike a balance between the freedom to assemble and the need to protect against contagion.On the first of August, around 20,000 people marched in Berlin, protesting against coronavirus restrictions, with most participants not wearing face masks or practising social distancing.This time around, if people turn out to protest despite the ban, the Berlin authorities said, police will intervene.
